A Family Tradition

Merla Mae has been a favourite in Thunder Bay since the 1950’s, when it was founded by Wendell Cathers as the first licensed drive-in in Thunder Bay, in 1951.

Since then we’ve become famous for our twin flavoured ice cream cones, Root Beer milkshakes, and homestyle burgers and have instilled a great sense of tradition in many Thunder Bay families. Mothers and fathers who have been enjoying Merla Mae’s delicious soft-serve treats since its inception have passed the tradition onto their children and grandchildren.
